The Facts About Bowling You Must Know
Bowling spans all provinces in nations for ages – but takes several forms. Here are a couple of fun facts that you never heard before.
In the 1930s a British anthropologist discovered evidence of bowling articles at an Egyptian grave, according to the International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame. There are evidence that bowling is dated to that era.
Indoor bowling alleys made their 1840 debut in New York City. The modern bowling is only a few thousand years older. In 1950, the first TV games came out.
Wood comes first, then rubber
Bowling balls were made in fact of wood in the early 1900s and heavy rubber later. By 1960 the manufacturers of bowling balls first used polyester resin to enable the manufacture of bright, rotating plastic balls.
Not permitted for girls
A gentleman's club (no ladies allowed!) was the American Bowling Congress. Women's National Bowling Association had not had a governing body of their own until 1917.
But the women's a long journey! Kelly Kulick was the first woman to be named on a 2010 tour of the Professional Bowlers Association. And recently, nine-year-old Hannah Diem was just the youngest bowling prodigy to play the perfect game in the United States.
They only grow larger
The largest bowling alley in the world is in Japan: 116 lanes are in TheInazawa Grand Bowling Centre!
Las Vegas has a bowling alley with the second largest mark – and a real bowling stage is located right next to it in Reno.
9 pins? Not in these sections.
In all states except Texas, nine-pin bowling is currently prohibited. Since 1830s, Texas has had nine pins and ten pins, where strikes with a wooden ball were much harder.
It was four hundred, not three hundred
The ball itself only hits four pins when you bowl an optimal strike. The 1, 3, 5 and 9-pin (sometimes the eight pins) are actually connected with a right-handed bowler ball – and the left hander ball is supposed to contact the 1, 2, 5 and 8 (or 9) pins.
You would only be able to hit 48 pins if you bowled a 300. Just think about it.
Each pin is separated by 12 inches. To make an ideal strike, you should throw your ball at six degrees in order to hit the pocket.
The pins in the pocket weight approximately 3.5 pounds, but as long as you are in good shape, at least 9°, the pin is tilted. All pins tilt up to 9° are dropped. Visit Altitude 1291 to see our bowling alley in OKC.
